| The department is pleased to announce the Division of Assessment Standards (DOAS) is changing its name to the Division of Local Government Services (LGS) to better reflect the duties and responsibilities of the Division. In addition to providing oversight of the work of county assessors, which was the main reason for the old name, the Division of Local Government Services is also responsible for the valuation, assessment, billing, collection, distribution and auditing of the net proceeds of minerals tax; valuation of mine properties, utilities and other complex properties for property tax purposes; oversight and audit of the collection of the real property transfer tax by county recorders; revenue projections for use by local government and others; oversight of local government budget and financial transactions; and the Division provides staff to the State Board of Equalization, Mining Oversight and Accountability Commission, Committee on Local Government Finance, and the Appraiser Certification Board.
